What we believe|

I should begin this short explanation of what we believe at Libanus with an apology to those who now expect an article steeped in some deep doctrinal language. If you want this please look at the Church Constitution which is also available from the menu on this website.

The people who go to Libanus welcome everyone who wants to get to know the one and only true living God. Those who have become members of Libanus believe that the only way to get to know the living God is to learn about Him through the Holy Bible. The Holy Bible has been translated many times over the last 500 years so I would recommend the New International Version as a good place to start, or if you don’t want to buy one, you can download the New English Translation Bible from http://www.bible.org for free.

We believe that the original Holy Scriptures, now called the Bible, are perfectly inspired by God and have been recorded and passed down by different people throughout history.
Our God is one holy entity who is made up of three equal parts. These are God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit (the Comforter). These three co-exist in perfect unity. He is the sovereign creator of the universe.
We believe that God is the only one who is always right. This is a hard concept, but we believe that everything he allows us to go through is because he is trying to draw us to Himself, because He loves us so much.

God wants to let everyone know that He has made a way in which every person can be made acceptable to Him. This way is through believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. We are told that Jesus is God’s only Son, born of a virgin, conceived of the Holy Spirit, and that he lived a blameless and spotless life. Of His own free will He allowed Himself to die by being nailed to a cross about 2000 years ago. In doing this we believe He took on Himself all of our imperfections and the judgement deserved by us from a pure and holy God. As Jesus, God’s only Son, paid the price for our sin, He rightly demands that we put all our trust in Him and follow the way He lived, so that we may live eternally with Him and the Father when we die. Jesus took the punishment we deserve from a Holy God for wrong we do in our lives. Trusting in Him means that our judgement has been transferred onto Jesus and we are made perfect in God’s sight by covering ourselves with the life Jesus has set us to live.
We believe that although Jesus died a physical death, he came back from the dead for a short while before going home to the Father because death could not contain the righteous Son of God. When He went back to the Father he left behind the Comforter whom we call the Holy Spirit, or Holy Ghost (old English).

One day we believe that the Lord Jesus Christ will return to this earth. When this happens everyone will see Him. At that time he will divide people up into two categories, those who believe and have put their trust in Him and those who do not believe. He will condemn those who do not believe to an existence without His presence, this we call Hell. Those who have placed their trust in Jesus will shared with Him His inheritance in heaven and live an eternal existence praising Him and enjoying the light and joy of his presence.
